Committed to reinvesting in parks and outdoor space and bringing resources to serve the local community, The Office of Council District 10 in partnership with the Department of Parks and Recreation hosted a Grand Opening of the Washington Irving Pocket Park on Saturday July 16.
“This is what building communities is all about! Kids deserve clean and safe parks. I’m proud to have played a role in bringing this to our community. I am excited to know that our kids will have the best of what this City has to offer,” said Councilmember Herb Wesson.
In South Los Angeles, there is a shortage of park space and assets that allow community members, especially children, to thrive. There are approximately 6, 123 city residents that live within a half-mile walking district of this area, and now these individuals have safe space for their children to play on the playground and enjoy the fresh air.
This project is one of the most needed investments in the district. The newly renovated facility spans over 13-acres and consists of a newly renovated facility totalling $710,000. This park is utilizing that money to also help with water conservation, from the permeable paving to sustainable landscaping and a smart irrigation system.
In addition, CD10 will be allocating funds to install the originally designed fence - adding more color and beauty to this already beautiful community.
