
The Office of Councilwoman Heather Hutt is proud to announce that on August 21, 2025 a portion of Coliseum Place from Victoria Avenue to Crenshaw Boulevard will be co-named as ‘Diane Watson Corridor’.
Diane Edith Watson is a former American politician whose legacy and advocacy has led to significant advancements across civil rights, healthcare access, education, and humanitarian efforts. Her remarkable and long list of achievements have earned her much respect from constituents, colleagues and people around the world. Some of these include, serving as a US Representative for California’s 33rd Congressional District (2003-2011), serving as a US Representative for California’s 32rd Congressional District (2001-2003),being a member of the California Senate from 1978 to 1998, and the Ambassador to Micronesia from 1999 to 2000.
“Diane Watson dedicated her life to the people of Los Angeles, tirelessly working to improve the lives of some of our most vulnerable communities. As a true champion for equity, she helped pave the way for a more just and fair city,” said Councilwoman Heather Hutt, Council District 10. “'The Diane Watson Corridor' will stand as a testament to her profound impact and the generations she inspired through her incredible work.”
The motion was originally authored by Councilwoman Hutt, Council President Harris-Dawson, and Councilmember Curren Price in November 2023. The motion was seconded by Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martinez.
