Debbie Allen Dance Academy Opening

Posted on 04/22/2022

I am proud and honored to welcome the Rhimes Performance Arts Center to Council District 10. Recently, Debbie Allen’s Dance Academy (DADA) hosted a grand opening of the facility. Serving as a performance hub, the facility’s mission is to grow and cultivate the talents of unprivileged youth throughout Los Angeles.

“As we work to reinvest in our community, we recognize the importance of the arts in creating a vibrant and thriving community. I remain committed to uplifting the arts and am proud to work in partnership with my friend Debbie Allen to do just that. I thank our partners and everyone who joined the celebration to support the arts,” said Councilmember Herb Wesson.

The Academy has remained committed to uplifting the community with the arts – from their Middle School, to their DAFLY cirque program, to RISE our musical theater program, to DADA on Pointe our Ballet program, to Colibri Arts our elders’ program to J.O.Y. their cancer patient program and more.

Congresswoman Maxine Waters, who also attended the event marked the significance of the opening. “This (RPAC) is an anchor of the community, and it’s a place where the children can look forward to going to. A lot of schools do not have art, they do not have music, they do not have dance. This will now be a place where they can look forward to developing their talents.”

Shonda Rhimes, commemorated the opening stating, “It is such a profound feeling to feel like this vision is finally coming to life with this building”.

A reporter commented. Can we find the next Shonda here someday?

“Hopefully not the next Shonda Rhimes, but someone bigger and better.”
