You have constitutional rights: 

 

  • DO NOT OPEN THE DOOR if an immigration agent is knocking on your door. 
  • DO NOT ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS from an immigration agent if they try to talk to you. You have the right to remain silent. 
  • DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING without speaking to a lawyer. You have the right to speak to a lawyer. 
  • If you are outside of your home, ask the agent if you are free to leave and if they say yes, leave calmly. 
  • DO GIVE THIS CARD TO THE AGENT. If you are inside of your home, show the card through the window or slide it under the door.

BE PREPARED: 

 

  • Carry a Know Your Rights Card (KNOW YOUR RIGHTS RED CARDS AVAILABLE HERE
  • Memorize Emergency Contacts
  • Secure Important Documents (such as birth certificates, passports, and medical records) With a Trusted Person. 
  • Create a Family Plan
    • Designate caregivers, if needed. 
    • Share your immigration number (“A” Number) with trusted family and friends.

IMMIGRATION ASSISTANCE HOTLINE:

 

If you know someone who has been detained by ICE, call CHIRLA’s Immigrant Assistance line at 888-624-4752. They lead the Raids Rapid Response Network. They will need the following information: 

 

  • Full Name 
  • Location 
  • Immigration Number (A Number) if applicable 

 

Please stay safe. If a family member has been detained, DO NOT visit the court if you are undocumented. Instead, ask a U.S. citizen family member to see them.
